Terrapin Point - Cumberland Island - Documented 11-29-10
Documenting the coastline of Terrapin Point area of Cumberland Island, Georgia on 11-29-10. Views sweep from south (entrance to Brickhill River) to the north (towards Cumberland Wharf area). Close attention is paid to the actual Terrapin Point high bluff which is eroding into the river. Take special note of the oyster shells falling off the bluff and the oysters imbedded in the earth above the sand layer - an old oyster shell midden??? Note the large sandy/muddy beach extending to either side of the bluff where the bluff has been eroding for hundreds of years. Also of note are the two large rocks covered with oysters - don't see any other rocks like this on the beach. Also, notice, when looking south, you can see all the way to Kings Bay Submarine Base in Kingsland, Georgia. Images taken near low tide. Been adding images at various tides.
